The Baobab Collection review
Founded in Belgium in 2002 after its founder returned from Africa, Baobab Collection built its reputation on scale. The signature Max 16 stands 26cm tall and burns for around 400 hours. These are objects designed to be seen unlit as much as lit, which is why they turn up so often in hotel lobbies and large residential interiors.
Each vessel is mouth-blown and hand-decorated, and the decorative range is enormous: lacquered black, gold leaf, animal prints, hand-painted patterns. The craft is real and so is the visual impact. Multiple wicks produce a wide, even melt pool and a burn that stays clean over hundreds of hours, which is genuinely difficult to engineer at this diameter.
Fragrance is competent rather than remarkable, and that is the honest trade-off. You are buying presence, scale and glass work first, composition second. Prices climb into four figures for the largest formats, so the value score is the lowest in this ranking, though cost per burn hour on a Max 16 is better than the sticker suggests.
